Not Working After Apple iOS 5 Update / Reminders Not Occuring

Please ensure you have upgraded to the latest version (go to updates in the app store and update it if Forgetful is shown).

For some users the new version of the iOS 5 operating system defaults to disabling the Forgetful notifications and in app badge (red number shown on the app badge in your home screen). This is a problem occurring with lots of app's after the Apple changes and is easily corrected by going to the notifications area in settings.

Open Settings:

Select Notifications:

Select Forgetful:

And setup as shown:

I Can't Install it

Forgetful works on all all iPad's and all iPhone's from the 3GS upwards. If you can’t install then your iPhone probably hasn’t been updated to a recent version (since March 2011) of the iOS operating system using iTunes. Connect it to a computer running iTunes and you should automatically be prompted to update it.

I paid for the upgrade on one of my devices - how do I get the upgrade on my other device without paying?

You only need to pay for the in app upgrade once if you use the same iTunes account on an iPhone and an iPad. To get the upgrade on your second device either press the upgrade button in Forgetful on the 2nd device and enter your password as if paying again at which point it will check with the app store and see that you have already paid. The alternative way is to fully close the Forgetful app, by double pressing your iPhone / iPad home button so that all of the running app's are displayed along the bottom of the screen. Press the red cross to close Forgetful and then run it again. When it starts up again it will check the app store to see if your account has purchased the upgrade.

I can't see a reminder I created

Did you set the reminder to Hide Until Due? It won't appear until the time and date you set is reached. You can see the number of hidden reminders on the Settings page. There is no way to force hidden reminders to be appear early (this is intentional!).

Reminders don't trigger exactly at the time set

Forgetful uses the Apple iOS operating system to generate the notifications of reminders, so that they occur even when Forgetful is not running. The operating system does not always trigger notifications exactly on the clocks minute change but will always trigger a notification within the 60 seconds before the time changes again.

Does Forgetful installed on an iPad sync with Forgetful installed on an iPhone?

No they are stand alone installations, although you only need to pay for the in app upgrade once if you use the same iTunes account on both devices. Some users would really like Forgetful to sync between an iPhone and an iPad and we agree that it would be a cool feature. Unfortunately even with Apple's introduction of iCloud it is not easy to implement in a way that works perfectly as files shared using iCloud are only seen by the remote device when an app is next run by the user (app's can't run in the background on iOS devices). Making Forgetful sync is do-able, but it is a significant development effort requiring us to run a server to handle the remote notifications needed. We're looking into it - help us justify the cost by recommending Forgetful to your friends and rating it in the app store!

Recording Audio Reminders doesn't seem to work?

Press the Record button to start recording and the Done button to stop. A row of bright green blocks shows the live audio level as you speak. You should hear a beep and double beep to confirm the starting and stopping of recording. If not check your device is not muted. If you are using the side switch on your iPad to lock orientation instead of mute press your home button twice quickly so the bottom of the screen shows all the running app's and then swipe them right so you can see the volume mute button - check it is not crossed out. Annoyingly the iPhone and iPad does not necessarily tell you the volume is muted when you adjust the volume level.
